Our History

The Pittsburgh Magic Volleyball Club was founded in 2005 with the purpose of  providing a positive volleyball training environment for girls aged 10 through 18. Our objective is to develop individual and team skills, assist our athletes in leadership development and athletic training skills as well as helping develop their social skills through competition and sportsmanship. Our purpose is to teach fundamental and advanced volleyball skills, promote philosophies of lifetime health and fitness and promote friendships with girls from different schools and backgrounds. Our teams compete on the Regional, American and National levels and have enjoyed great success as evidenced by our 145 Tournament Championships including 6 East Coast and AAU Super Regional Championships and 5th place finishes at AAU Nationals in Orlando in 2008 and 2010.

He has over 10 years of coaching experience in the sport, and has coached several successful programs. He previously served as the assistant coach at both Chartiers Valley & Chartiers Houston High School, and he was the head coach for the very talented St. Gabriel Gators. In his time with St. Gabe's, they earned multiple section championships and even a Diocesan Championship win! Last year, he expanded his coaching level to college volleyball, serving as the assistant coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny. This season, he was named head coach of the Beaver Area volleyball program, where he has led the Bobcats to a successful season thus far! He previously coached with Pittsburgh Magic from 2011 to 2013 and was with Pittsburgh Juniors from 2014 to 2016. In addition to serving as our Assistant Director, he will also be filling the role of Player Development Coordinator, so he will be someone that everyone will be able to interact with frequently. Tyler is the head coach for the 16 Pink team this year.

Pittsburgh Magic is pleased to welcome Joe Reiff back for his seventh season with us. He was the JV and Varsity coach for the girls teams at St. Katharine Drexel for four years. This year, he began his high school coaching career as an assistant for the Beaver Area volleyball program, and he has been a great asset to the program, bringing his years of knowledge, his love for the sport, & his motivating mentality to the program. This year, he has expanded his role in the club to the Director of Recruitment & will be the head coach of our 18 Pink team! Joe's contribution to both Diocesan volleyball and Pittsburgh Magic has been great, and we are honored to call him a part of our Pittsburgh Magic Family.

Rowene Harris (Parent)

"Went beyond all expectations! My daughter has played club volleyball for Pittsburgh Magic for three years, & this season has been the BEST!! It was such a positive and great learning experience. The coaches and the team competition have built and improved my daughters skills. She loved the team building and the training she received. She improved her skills in her position and also learned how to adapt to the back row. Pittsburgh Magic is a great environment, concentrating on team work and teaching players to be the best that they can be! Years of experience and love for the game make Pittsburgh Magic a special place, and Alyssa Schrecengost... Makes the Magic happen!"

Heidi Surunis (Parent)

"Our daughter was part of the Pittsburgh Magic Volleyball family for four seasons. During that time, she grew from a girl who played volleyball and transformed into a volleyball player. The Magic experience encompasses all that is necessary for that growth; it provides exceptional instruction, positive coaching, & the bond of teamwork that flows into friendships that will last a lifetime. Now in her second year as an outside hitter on the University of Pittsburgh Club Volleyball Team, our daughter continues to excel and benefit from the lessons she learned in those days, both on and off the court. The love of the sport of volleyball begins as a spark; at Pittsburgh Magic, that spark becomes a flame that fuels young athletes to excellence."

Alleisha Leadbitter (Alumni & Former Coach)

"I started out playing for Pittsburgh Magic when I was 15 years old, and my experience was not only rewarding but inspiring as well. Each one of my coaches genuinely cared about me; not only as a player but as a person. They went above & beyond to make me a better volleyball player & person as well. Some of my most memorable volleyball experiences were made with this remarkable club. After many rewarding seasons playing for this club, I then became a coach. Coaching for them showed me how close-knit, loving, and caring each and every one of the coaches/club directors are. This is a great fun & loving club."

Pete Roth (Parent)

"Pittsburgh Magic has provided the teaching & competition to help our daughter's skill level escalate much faster than if she just played throughout middle school. We are proud to be part of the Magic family."

Maureen Folan (Parent)

“I could not have asked for a better first experience, into the world of club Volleyball, than Magic Volleyball. My daughter loved every minute of the practices and the matches themselves. She found the instructors fun and knowledgeable and appropriately tough, never demeaning and always using mistakes as a teachable moment. It was almost as though the coaches willed her to play better, though the confidence they instilled in her. The group of girls she played with were outstanding. They all played and felt part of the team. I would definitely recommend Magic to anyone that wants to play club volleyball."

Keri Langer (Parent)

"We have had the pleasure of being with Pittsburgh Magic Volleyball for 5 years. The family friendly atmosphere made Magic a good fit for Hannah. Magic improved her volleyball skills & allowed her to play in a competitive club. We watched Hannah grow from a scared girl into a confident young adult while making friends and playing volleyball."

Patrick Kennedy (Parent)

"Our daughter has played for Pittsburgh Magic for the past 3 seasons. We feel fortunate that she has been able to play here due to the fact that in each of those seasons, the 3 different coaches she has had have given her the direction and support she has needed to help her move forward, not only in her volleyball skills, but also in terms of mentally preparing to reach her goals of playing in high school, and now preparing to play in college. If you want your daughter to have a fulfilling volleyball experience, Pittsburgh Magic is the place to play."

Kelly Crile   (Parent)

"We were very fortunate when Pittsburgh Magic made contact with us last year about coming to try out for the 17's team as they needed a setter. We had already played for two other clubs and was set to play with the same club for a second season. We decided at the tryout to play with Pittsburgh Magic right then and there. This was the best decision we could of made. The coaching staff is absolutely amazing and our daughter gained more skill, knowledge and love for volleyball that season then she had the past two years. Now we have both our girls playing and couldn't be more excited to see what they achieve this season."
